Furlane brand shoes as a Contemporary Venetian Brand Rooted in Tradition and Craftsmanship
Furlane, also known as Friulane or Papusse shoes, originated in the Friuli region of Italy. Traditionally made from recycled fabrics and old bicycle tires, they were later adopted by the gondoliers of Venice because of their comfort, flexibility, and soft soles, which were perfect for protecting the delicate wooden surfaces of gondolas. Over time, these shoes became deeply connected with Venetian culture and style. Today, Furlane shoes are considered a true fashion icon in Venice and are appreciated for their timeless elegance and artisanal value.
This project reimagines Furlane as a contemporary Venetian brand rooted in tradition and craftsmanship. The brand identity is inspired by the beauty, charm, and decorative richness of Venice. I designed a simple and refined logo paired with a series of damask patterns inspired by traditional Venetian textiles and interiors. These classic motifs are combined with vibrant, modern colors that bring freshness and personality to the brand, creating a balance between heritage and innovation.
The project also highlights the artisanal quality of the products. Every detail was designed to reflect the handmade nature of the shoes, including the labels, which are stitched and handmade as well. Through this visual identity, I wanted to celebrate one of Venice’s most fascinating traditions and give it a new, modern expression.
